What exactly is capacity?
Capacity is a gauge of the overall size of all files delivered to your website visitors.
For instance, when a guest opens a page, Webflow dispatches that page file and all the elements (such as fonts, assets, and videos) to the visitor’s web browser. If you’re delivering a very basic page to a single guest, your capacity usage will be nearly unnoticeably small. However, if you’re providing a content-rich page to a significantly large number of visitors, your capacity usage will rapidly increase.
Reminder: Capacity is restricted per website based on your website subscription — for more information, check out our plans and pricing or review the hosting section in your project configurations.
How can I minimize my capacity consumption?
To lower your website’s capacity utilization, you can attempt to optimize file dimensions or reduce the usage of sizable files like videos. Here are some beneficial suggestions to consider:
- Lessen the usage of background videos
- Enhance the file size of images in rich text areas
- Substitute PNGs with SVGs when feasible
- Swap background image styles with inline images positioned via object-fit
- Eradicate unused fonts from your project settings
Reminder: Webflow’s built-in responsive images support automatically reformats inline images according to the device size of your visitor. Responsive image support does not apply to background images, or images in CMS-driven rich text components.
What occurs if I exceed my capacity limits?
Webflow will make contact to discuss upgrades if you consistently surpass your limitations — we won’t immediately restrict your website’s performance or hinder your website’s efficiency without contacting you first.
If refining elements isn’t adequate to reduce your usage and you anticipate requiring greater capacity limits, please contact our Webflow Enterprise team to talk about transitioning your site to our enterprise hosting plan, which provides tailored capacity and traffic assistance.
