Establish an RSS feed

Set up an RSS feed on your Webflow site and use it to share your content across the web.

RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) empowers individuals to subscribe to a stream of content from a website, blog, or any other online publication that they can access via email or a reader application like Feedly [↗], FeedBin [↗], or FeedBurner [↗]. It is also possible to utilize it to automate your email newsletter through MailChimp [↗].

During this session

You have the option to easily activate an RSS feed for any of your Webflow CMS and Ecommerce collections. Here’s how:

  1. Switch on RSS 2.0 for your dynamic content
  2. Specify your RSS feed’s preferences
  3. Preview the feed
  4. Copy the RSS URL for use in other places

Switch on RSS 2.0 for your dynamic content

In the Pages panel, click on the cog (settings) icon next to the collection template (purple page) that you wish to enable RSS for. Then, access the RSS Feed Settings and toggle the switch to activate it.

‍To initiate your RSS feed, navigate to the Pages panel, locate the Collection Template you wish to create a feed for, access its settings, and enable RSS.

Specify your RSS feed’s preferences

In order to provide a satisfactory experience for your feed followers, you should complete the following fields — some of which can be configured using Collection fields.

  • Channel Title — The name of your channel in RSS readers like Feedly. In most cases, using your website or blog’s title is recommended.
  • Channel Description — A concise overview of the content you publish and the reason why people might be interested in reading it. If it’s for your blog, it should represent the entirety of your blog, not a specific article.
  • Item Title — The titles of individual items in your feed, typically the blog post or page title. Utilize a Collection field unless you want all your articles to have the same title.
  • Item Description — A brief summary of the content within individual items. This serves as a preview of the article itself and is another suitable candidate for a Collection field.
  • Item Image — The image that will be displayed as the thumbnail in many feed readers or as the main image in an email.
  • Channel Refresh Time — The frequency (in minutes) at which RSS readers should check for new content. Most readers establish their own refresh time (usually around 60 minutes), so this can serve as a fallback value.
‍Set your RSS feed preferences, utilizing Collection fields for Item Title, Description, and Image.

Preview the feed

Once all your information is filled in, you can preview your feed at the bottom of the page settings. The preview should resemble the following:

Review your RSS feed before publishing to ensure everything appears well.

Copy your RSS URL for use elsewhere

Various services (such as MailChimp [↗] and Zapier [↗]) will require your RSS URL to configure your feed. You can easily copy this URL directly from the Pages panel. Furthermore, you may wish to incorporate an RSS button on your website using this link, making it simpler for individuals to subscribe.

‍Retrieve your URL for use with other applications or integrate it as a link on your website.
